SAFE-R App for Syrian Refugee Women

How I Serve

I search for emerging companies, technologies, disruptive technologies, innovations, start-ups and up-starts. I’ll look to match potential problems… e.g. “plastic pollution” to solutions… e.g. 3D Printer for recycled plastic waste…for potential venture capitalists, angel investors, and online funders. I’ll also highlight a variety of topics including funding success stories, the environment, housing, medical, artificial intelligence, science, aging populations, disabled populations, social entrepreneurs, philanthropy, and topical news. I’m always searching for great people innovating, inventing, and doing, great things.

I don’t endorse. Only disseminate.

The 411: Investment Opportunity for Doing Good - App to provide psychological care for Syrian women in Turkey suffering from PTSD and depression

Found on: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/safe-r-for-refugee-women#/

As a female Syrian refugee, I've faced many of the same problems as my compatriots, and even though my situation is better than most girls--I had a chance to complete my education, lived in a house with my family, had a chance to travel and know more about what we need and who we are--I thought that this should be my job... I should find a way to give all girls the same chances that I got.

Short Summary

  • My name is Reem. I am an 18 year old female Syrian refugee in Turkey.
  • I want to help other girls who are suffering from the psychological effects of war and displacement (including sexual trauma), particularly post-traumatic stress and depression... The vast majority of my demographic experience symptoms.
  • Contributors can create opportunities that do not currently exist for women in my community to heal through psychological care with anonymity, which is vital in my culture.

What We Need & What You Get

We will need funding for the application development and creating a network of Arabic-speaking psychologists who can provide their services through the app.
  • I will send a personal thank you post on your social media page for my sincere gratitude for your support.
  • If we do not reach our entire goal, I will continue to develop the app as best as I can with my team, even though this would take much longer without necessary funding. That's how important this is to us, because we know it will help other women in my unfortunate situation.

The Impact

  • There are more Syrian refugees in Turkey than anywhere else in the world--over 3.5 million of us! We do not have access to mental health services in general, and none are offered yet with the anonymity that Safe-R will provide
  • This idea won the  “Hacking the glass ceiling: Tech solutions for gender equality” hackathon a few months ago and was cited as "brilliant" by the organization founders.
  • Anywhere from 83-99% of Syrian refugee women are suffering with symptoms from PTSD and depression. This is a way to offer help within a realistic context.

Risks & Challenges

  • I am determined to speak with fellow refugees to see how we can improve the app and make sure women know about it and use it.
  • .Beyond the app development, the most difficult phase will be recruiting Arabic-speaking psychologists, but with your help, we can find additional funding to hire them!

Other Ways You Can Help

  • Even if you cannot make a monetary contribution right now, you can share this link with the Indiegogo share tools.
  • The fact that you read this shows your interest in supporting refugees. Please start a conversation today so we are not forgotten. Thank you!
