Earfy - Giving the Hard of Hearing Independence

How I Serve

I search for emerging companies, technologies, disruptive technologies,
innovations, start-ups and up-starts. I’ll look to match potential problems…
e.g. “plastic pollution” to solutions… e.g. 3D Printer for recycled plastic waste…
for potential venture capitalists, angel investors, and online funders.
I’ll also highlight a variety of topics including funding success stories,
the environment, housing, medical, artificial intelligence, science,
aging populations, disabled populations, social entrepreneurs, philanthropy,
and topical news. I’m always searching for great people innovating,
inventing, and doing, great things.

Live subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing people
Help us make the Earfy App for free (turns speech to subtitles for people with hearing loss).

Deaf and hard of hearing people often feel excluded. They have a hard time communicating . We want to take away this frustration. Our solution works for everyone: your grandma and school-going children in Kenya. The solution is already in place. Our test-users tell us that they feel free and independent. Now we just need the budget to distribute the app for free and continue developments. With your support we will be able to reach this goal!!!

Change the world for people with hearing loss

The app has been built; we now need your support for the next steps!

When a friend of us rapidly lost his hearing, we wanted to help him and others with hearing loss communicate, at home and at work. So we developed Earfy, so that deaf and hard of hearing people can once again be part of the conversation. We currently have a fully functional app in place that works in over 80 languages!
The Earfy app generates real-time subtitles/captions for people with hearing loss. The user interface is optimized for reading during conversations. You can simply read what's being said.
We developed the Earfy app together with 2 Universities and international associations for people with hearing loss. Thanks to the app, deaf and hard of hearing are able to communicate wherever and whenever they want!

Helping more people

It is our missions to help as many people with hearing loss as possible, all over the world. Ranging from first to third world countries. Our app gives hard of hearing people independence. They no longer have to rely on an interpreter or other assistance; they can simply use the Earfy app on their smartphone or tablet, whenever and wherever they want. The app generates live captions/subtitles of speech to their conversation partner. This includes private conversations, such as doctor visits or a spontaneous coffee with a friend; both of which are hard without an aid like the Earfy app.

Use of the app

The Earfy app is currently being used in various environments:
  • At home with friends and family
  • At work for presentations and meetings
  • In classrooms at schools and universities
  • For visits  to shops, docters, banks, etc.

About us

Hi! I am Evert, the founder of Earfy. I am an innovator and entrepreneur. I was born the Netherlands and live in Belgium. After many innovative projects as entrepreneur, investor and consultant, Earfy is my first social innovation. It learned me the value of helping people and now I want more! We want to help people all over the world with a free app.
My partner in this project is called Barend. He is the financial director of a Dutch NGO and came up with the idea for a real-time subtitling app. He is a senior in all aspects of the word and helps us to stay focused on functional progress of the app.
Our developers are based in Belgium and Portugal. They go all the way to get the best of speech recognition for deaf and hard of hearing people. They are specialists in Speech to Text and focus on a solid solution.
Now we count on you for the next steps! Every dollar counts towards our goals. Please back us and share!

What We Need & What You Get

  • We need $30K to make the app for free and continue development
  • We need $10K for each additional feature listed above
  • You can help us to help the community of people with hearing loss. Your main-return is the social return; you can help us take away frustration and isolation!
  • Wether we reach our goal or not, all funds will go to the app for people with hearing loss!

The Impact

  • Deaf and hard of hearing people are often isolated and frustrated. They have a hard time communicating with hearing people. We want to take away this frustration for everyone. That includes your grandma and school-going children in Kenya.
  • The app is already in place. We  need the budget to continue developments and distribute the app for free.
  • Users of the app are really pleased with the results. They feel free and independent. The only complaints we get are about the fact that the current version of the app is still paid!
